Departing from mundaneness, Di scrutinizes her surroundings through image-making, seeking to capture the fleeting yet profoundly poetic visual metaphors.

In Nomad004, Di tries to discover the relationship between the elusiveness of visuality and visual distance. If standing too close would lose the clarity of vision, then the secret to capturing the essence of things might be discovering the right distance.

To Di, her tactic is to maintain the distance physically, mentally, and culturally formed by entities such as windows and fences. The objects of screening between outside and inside, in Di’s metaphorical image storytelling, are revealed as also the bridge and poetically a vantage point to “see” clearer. In her works, the juxtaposition of landscapes and human bodies confuses the distance, begging a question on “intimacy.” Unsolved as an enigma, these questions and reflections on clarity, distance, and intimacy invite the readers to participate in her blend of wistfulness, bemusement, perplexion, and tender acceptance.
